Now that I’ve settled into my new home in Salt Lake City—specifically near Cottonwood Heights—exploring the local coffee scene has been at the top of my list. From trendy interiors to scenic patios, I’ve been on a mission to uncover the best spots where exceptional coffee meets cozy atmospheres. Here are my favorites so far:
Dutch Brothers is always a classic. Their creamy milk is unmatched and the friendly service from the baristas always brightens your day. Your coffee order feels more like a dessert than a morning pick-me-up with specials like candy cane soft-top lattes. For me, their signature sweetness can sometimes be a bit much, but if you’re in the mood for a treat, Dutch Brothers is a great stop.
Walking into Coffee & Cocoa feels like stepping into the middle of a bustling tech hub. Located near several major offices, the space is usually filled with remote workers typing away or professionals grabbing a quick coffee during lunch breaks. They offer a fantastic assortment of teas and specialty drinks, and it’s a great place to sit down with your laptop and dive into work while sipping something warm.
I’ll admit it—Beans & Brews just doesn’t do it for me. Honestly, it reminds me of something you’d get from a Keurig machine. While their multiple locations make it a convenient option if you’re in a rush, there are better options nearby if you’re looking for a coffee experience that stands out.
This one is a gem, especially if you’re looking for a coffee spot that is open late. Sunset Coffee offers gorgeous views of the sunset (thus the name) from its many windows and plenty of tables to sit and relax both indoors and on the patio. The vibe here leans a little grungy which can either feel charming or a little rough around the edges, depending on your style. The coffee itself? Delicious and perfectly brewed, making it a favorite of mine for evening visits.
Jitterbug is a pink, ski-themed donut and espresso truck parked conveniently near a ski shop. It’s the kind of place that instantly feels like a little adventure stop. When I visited, I tried their pumpkin spice latte, but I’ll admit that I've been spoiled with fresh pumpkin in my lattes for a while now and their artificial syrup didn't hit the spot. That said, I can’t wait to give them another shot this winter. Pair it with a donut, and you’ve got yourself the perfect post-ski treat.
Java Jo’s is that dependable, straightforward coffee stand that never lets you down. The drive-through always seems to have a line, which is a good sign! Their coffee is exactly what you’d expect—solid, affordable, and perfect for a quick caffeine boost. It reminds me of the espresso stands you’d find on a road trip: nothing fancy, but comforting and consistent.
Cupla Coffee is a trendy haven for anyone who loves a good coffee shop aesthetic. With its sleek interior, homemade syrups, and assortment of pastries, it’s a great spot for catching up with friends or simply enjoying some “me” time. The vibe here is undeniably hipster, but in the best way—think plants, natural light, and perfectly curated decor. Cupla didn't disappoint!
Alpha Coffee is a standout for so many reasons. First, their gourmet breves, made with rich maple syrup and local honey, are out of this world. Second, the location is unbeatable, nestled at the mouth of the canyon with stunning mountain views that make every visit feel like a retreat. The ski lodge interior is cozy yet spacious, making it a perfect gathering place. Whether you’re there for a quiet moment or meeting up with friends, Alpha Coffee hits all the right notes.
Tres Gatos is small in size but big in flavor. Their homemade chai lattes are an absolute dream, with no artificial pumpkin syrups in sight. The owner clearly cares deeply about the business and engages with customers both in person and on social media. While the indoor space is limited, the sunny patio is a fantastic spot for sipping coffee and getting some work done. I love the cozy, community-driven feel of this little gem.
Whether you’re craving a cozy latte, a creative specialty drink, or a welcoming space to work or unwind, Cottonwood Heights and the surrounding areas in Salt Lake City have something for every coffee lover. I’m sure I’ll discover even more gems in the future, but for now, these spots have my heart (and caffeine loyalty). Cheers!
